April Food Day | Bloggers Fighting Hunger

Did you know that:

• One in eight Americans is at risk of hunger?
• Four million Americans receive assistance from Feeding America each week?
• Children who are hungry have slower emotional, social and educational development?
• Millions of elderly Americans go to bed hungry every night?

For many people, the economic crisis has become personal and critical. Here in Metro Detroit, many of our neighbors have become jobless, homeless, and hungry. Statewide, the food insecurity rate is 12.2 percent. Sadly, this is nearly matched by an unemployment rate of 11.6 percent, one of the highest in the nation.

Today, bloggers across the country are joining together in an effort to raise awareness of the problem of hunger in America. We are participating in this effort by asking those of you who can do so to consider making a donation to Feeding America, formerly known as Second Harvest. Feeding America is a national food bank with 200 member banks nationwide. (If you are in the Ann Arbor area and you need assistance, please contact Food Gatherers. )

For more information, please take a moment to read the April Food Day blog. You can make your donation here.

The need is urgent and your help is much appreciated.
Thank you.

The E: Shannon+Chris in Birmingham, MI

I was so excited when Erin, a 2008 bride (you may remember her beautiful fall wedding at the River Birch Lodge) referred her friend Shannon to me. Shannon is a Michigan native who now lives in California and is on the staff at the sublime French Laundry restaurant. She and her fiance, Chris, are planning an August wedding in Michigan, and we had the pleasure of shooting their engagement portraits when they were in town during the holidays. (I think it must be easier to love the cold weather when you live in California. :) We would have gladly gone out West for the session, but had we done so, we would have missed Shannon’s mother’s beautiful home, along with all of the fun that is downtown Birmingham at Christmas.)

Shannon and Chris, we had a wonderful time with you and we’re truly looking forward to your wedding day! Thanks so much for sharing an afternoon with us. We hope you enjoy your photos!
