Design Tuesday: Be Inspired | DIY Springtime (Detroit Wedding Bouquets)

OK. I’ve had all of this miserable weather that I can stand, so I decided to go in search of spring.
And I found it — sitting right there on my hard drive! Who knew??

Don’t you just love beautiful bouquets? (And if you haven’t been by our Facebook page yet, why not??? Get over there and become a fan. We have lots of fun coming, so don’t miss out.)

Enjoy!

Fan Me! | Ann Arbor Wedding Photographer

The Studio Sinead Facebook page is finally up and it’s lonely over there! If you are a past, present, or future client, come on over and fan me. We’re going to be adding new pictures over the next few days and one lucky client is going to win some free enlargements. Details to follow on the facebook page, so make sure you head over and sign up!

And before anyone says anything, no, I didn’t hear a word about hell freezing over, but let this be a lesson to everyone: never say never. Who knows? I just might complete the downward spiral and find myself on Twitter before all is said and done. :)

Casting Call — Ann Arbor Boudoir Photographer

Studio Sinead is looking for models!

In preparation for the launch of our new web site dedicated exclusively to boudoir photography, we are looking for four or five models to help us test new sets and lighting, as well as augment our portfolio. If selected, you will receive a complimentary professional makeup session along with a disc of images. You will be able to print the images for your personal use, but the copyright will remain with Studio Sinead. To qualify, you must:

1. Be 21 years of age or older. Proof of age will be requested.

2. Be 5’ 7” or taller, weight proportional to your height. Note: this does not mean that you have to be a size 0.

3. Have clear skin.

4. Be willing to sign a model release allowing us to use your image on the Studio Sinead website and/or blog. Please refrain from applying if this poses a problem for you. We do not want to waste your time, or ours.

Interested? Please email casting (at) studiosinead (dot) com and put the word Model in the subject line. Please be sure to include your name, age, and a daytime telephone number in your email. We will contact you with information about the date and time of the casting. Email inquiries only.

This casting call is for ladies only.

We’re looking forward to working with you.

Design Tuesday: Off With Her Head!

My recent maternity/boudoir posts have prompted a few of you to ask a very legitimate question: what’s up with the headless women?

I have to tell you: I feel you on that. Totally. I am definitely not a proponent of the Disembodied Woman School of Photography.

OK, it’s not that I’ve never shot body parts or unidentifiable nudes, but, generally speaking, I find it ridiculous as far as portfolio material goes. (And what is a photographer’s blog if not a portfolio?) I regularly tell my clients that beauty knows no age, weight or dress size and is something to be celebrated. But we live in a ridiculous era when a size 12 woman is considered “plus size”, places like the GAP and J Crew refuse to serve larger customers in their brick and mortar stores, and otherwise intelligent people still get their knickers in a knot over anything more than a brief glimpse of skin. On top of all that, for most women there is more than enough body shame to go around. Believe me; I have no desire to contribute to the problem. I have shot hundreds of gorgeous photos that I’d love to share with all of you, but unfortunately I can’t. Am I disappointed? You bet I am.

The thing is, I have clients who want to protect their privacy and who, therefore, restrict the ways in which I can use their maternity and boudoir pictures. Respecting their wishes is a condition of being in business, and even if I am not always happy about it, I do have to comply. Trust is an integral part of the relationship whenever you photograph anyone.

So in answer to your questions, no, the photos that you have recently seen on this site do not signal a post-feminist return to the concept of woman as chattel, object, or anything of the kind. Nor have I become a prude. I’m just a girl with a camera, trying to keep her clients happy and avoid unemployment at the same time. Believe me; right now, this is not as easy as it may sound.

Now because I hate the idea of posting without a picture, here’s a little eye candy to get you through the day. Make sure to come back for tomorrow’s casting call and to read all about how you can get some fabulous free photos for yourself.

Until then . . .
